Jon Turteltaub has confirmed that a third National Treasure film is officially in development. Speaking during a live taping of the National Treasure Hunt podcast, the director revealed that a screenplay is currently being written for the long-dormant adventure franchise.
Turteltaub also indicated that the intention is to reunite as many members of the original ensemble as possible. While Disney and Nicolas Cage’s representatives have yet to issue formal statements, the director’s comments mark the clearest sign yet that creative work on the project has resumed.
The first film arrived in 2004 and became a solid commercial success, with its 2007 sequel expanding the treasure-hunting story further. A Disney+ series followed in 2022, but the theatrical series itself has remained quiet for nearly two decades. Turteltaub’s update suggests that silence may finally be ending.
